How to Teach a Lesson
Each lesson in this curriculum includes several files that work together to guide the class through the Bible story in an engaging and organized way.
Lesson Script
Each lesson file contains the main teaching script for the class. These are written in a conversational format designed to be read aloud by the teacher while interacting with the students. The script walks the teacher step-by-step through the Bible passage, Story Note moments, verse activity, and review activity. Teachers are encouraged to read the lesson ahead of time so they are familiar with the flow of the story, but the script is written so that even volunteers can confidently lead the lesson. If you’ve ever read a story out loud to a child, you can use these lessons!
Throughout the lesson, symbols are included to cue the teacher:
▶️ Arrow Symbol: Indicates that it is time to advance to the next slide in the presentation file.
⭐ Star Symbol: Highlights special instructions for the teacher, such as optional tips or reminders about the activity.
Presentation
Each lesson includes a presentation file designed to be displayed on a TV or projector at the front of the teaching area. The presentation contains Bible passages that the class will read together, colorful graphics that help illustrate the story, and Story Note slides where students pause to take notes. These files are provided in Microsoft PowerPoint and LibreOffice Impress formats (LibreOffice is a free alternative to Microsoft Office). It is helpful, but not necessary, to purchase a presentation remote to advance the slides as you teach. Many such remotes can be found online for around $10-15.
Story Note Sheets
Each student will need a Story Note Sheet, a two-sided page that should be printed before the lesson begins. During the lesson, students will trace or fill in key words and draw simple doodles on this sheet as they follow along with the Bible story. Story Note Sheets come in a variety of formats to keep the activity engaging. Some include pictures that students cut out and glue onto the sheet, while others use small cards that are filled out and arranged to form a large picture.
As you teach and advance the presentation, you’ll arrive at Story Note slides. For each one, instruct the children to trace/fill in the missing word on their sheets and draw their own version of the doodle. Continue reading from the script, encouraging the children to listen as they doodle.
